Go Seigen's Way of Play At the Go Congress, Ken Pelter of Ishi Press International was telling some of us about this new Go Seigen book and how Go Seigen rejects traditional openings like sanrensei (3 star points along one side). For you non-go-players, tengen is the center point, and playing there so soon is usually considered unorthodox. Go Seigen is considered to be one of the greatest go players of the 20th century and a pioneer in fuseki (opening theory). This game was with Jim of the Austin Go Club. Lucky for him I didn't try to draw him as Darth Vader or something. Thanks to Jeff for going over this game with us later using Jim's game record (which also helped me correct the placement of Jim's second stone... :) |
